STRENGTH. RESILIENCE. COURAGE.

Chris Causey Counseling & Consulting, headshot

I’m Chris Causey, a Licensed Professional Counselor and EMDR Therapist. For over 15 years I’ve helped people untangle the weight of trauma, anxiety, and addiction so they can live with clarity and strength. I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, and major life transitions. I also lead men’s groups that focus on accountability and growth.

My style is practical and direct, dedicated to providing a space that’s safe, judgment-free, and occasionally lighthearted (because you can’t talk about heavy stuff all day without laughing sometimes). I’ll listen, reflect, and give you tools you can use right away. Therapy with me isn’t about jargon or theory; it’s about real progress in the places that matter most.

What clients say

"Having enjoyed the benefits of many therapists through the years I can attest that Chris brings something special and unique to his practice and our successful work together.  As effective in a season of crisis as he is during the long haul, I am grateful for Chris's expertise, compassion and experience.  Chris has a welcoming and down home manner that sets one at ease. His gentle, incisive exploration of those difficult places we tend to defend so vigorously is, I believe, what helps him be an effective catalyst for the healing we must ultimately undertake on our own.  Or simply put, Chris is really good at his job."

How did I get here? I discovered forging and blacksmithing in the late 80’s in Northern California at a time when I felt pretty lost in my direction. Blacksmithing taught me just as much about myself than I was about forging tapers, traditional joinery and forge welding. I repeatedly encountered these parts within myself when I made mistakes that were really harsh and cruel. I would say stuff to myself in my mind that I would NEVER say to anyone..”Youre such a f#cking idiot..” or “Didn’t you hear what he said???” I realized that there were parts in my head that were NOT kind or patient or even friendly.

My mind was expanding to see this kind of work as being as much about process than about product. Sure, I could make a fireplace set, or forge up a garden gate, but how did I speak to myself when my forged scrolls looked janky, or when the steel “grapes” I worked on looked more like tiny olives? If I could fix it; I did, but how I spoke to myself in my mind was just as important. This realization set me on a path of both self compassion and service to others.

I decided to pursue a career in chaplaincy and hospice care. Sitting with people at their most vulnerable taught me two things: that pain is unavoidable, and that connection changes everything. After years of clinical chaplaincy, I earned my MA in Counseling and became licensed, and I haven't looked back.

Inspired by my journey with the anvil, my practice is all about transformation; the willingness to stay with the heat, to return to the metaphorical anvil again and again, shaping ourselves through practice. The work is never finished. It’s simply the steady rhythm of becoming.
